How Should You Write Credit Correction Letters?

Although there is no specified format for this letter, you should follow a generally accepted way to write it.

Giving all contact details apart, you have to address the letter to the relevant officer in the consumer reporting company or the credit bureau.

Be specific on your disputes
Being specific on your points removes confusion and cuts down on the time wastage. You can list out the points in bullets for easy readability. Circle out the disputed points in the copy of your credit report you are going to enclose and state it in the letter.
Enclose supporting documents
The documents you enclose with your credit report letter bring credibility and weight age to your arguments. This facilitates the investigating officer to quickly concentrate on the specifics of your disputes. Do not forget to list out the enclosures at the end of the letter.
State the consequences of wrong report
It always helps to state the consequence an inaccurate or incomplete report has done to you or would do if not corrected as soon as possible. Keep in mind that credit rating agencies are duty bound by FCRA (federal Fair Credit Rating Act) to give priority to all seriously wronged consumers.

All said and done, it helps to include your social security number or a copy of your driving license.
